Violated co-authors Paula Lavigne and Mark Schlabach have partnered with RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network), the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization. RAINN created and operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline (800.656.HOPE, online.rainn.org y rainn.org/es) in partnership with more than 1,000 local sexual assault service providers across the country and operates the DoD Safe Helpline for the Department of Defense. RAINN also carries out programs to prevent sexual violence, help victims, and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice. A percentage of the proceeds from the sale of Violated will benefit RAINN and its services to sexual assault victims.

Federal statistics show that 21 percent of female undergraduates said they had been sexually assaulted while in college, as did 7 percent of male undergraduates. Just 12.5 percent of women who said they were raped reported the assault to colleges or law enforcement. RAINN has a list of warning signs that parents, educators, friends and others can look for if they are concerned that a friend, colleague, student or loved one has been the victim of sexual violence.
